Affirmative to Negative

Negative: None but the brave deserve the fair.

Affirmative: Only the moon was visivle in the sky.

Negative: Nothing but the moon was visible in the sky.

Affirmative: Only money can save me now.

Negative: Nothing but money can save me now.

Note: উপরের Affirmative Sentence গুলোতে (Allah, Zayan, the brave,) শব্দগুলো ব্যক্তি বাচক তাই ‘None but ’ ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। এবং (money, moon) শব্দগুলো বস্তু বাচক তাই ‘Nothing but’ ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

বাক্যের মাঝে ‘Only’ থাকলে ব্যক্তর ক্ষেত্রে No other + ‘Only’ এর পরবর্তি ব্যক্তি + than/but + শুরু থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত বাকী অংশ বসে। বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে ‘Only’ উঠে যায় এবং এর পরিবর্তে ‘Nothing but’ বসিয়ে বাক্যটিকে Negative করা হয়। যেমন-

Affirmative: Jerry was the only boy fit for chopping wood.

Negative: No other boy than/but Jerry was fit for chopping wood.

Affirmative: The man has only a car.

Negative: The man has nothing but a car.

Negative: The man has no car without this one.

Affirmative: I need only money.

Negative: I need nothing but money.

Affirmative: He reads only English.

Negative: He reads nothing but English.

Affirmative: The baby eats only ice-cream.

Negative: The baby eats nothing but ice-cream.

Note: উপরের Affirmative Sentence গুলোতে (boy) শব্দটি ব্যক্তি বাচক তাই ‘None but’ ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। এবং (car, money, English, ice-cream) শব্দগুলো বস্তু বাচক তাই ‘Nothing but’ ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

(iii) বাক্যে ‘Only’ এর পরে সংখ্যাবাচক শব্দ থাকলেঃ

‘Only’ এর পরিবর্তে Not more that/Not less than বসে।

Affirmative: Zayan is only ten.

Negative: Zayan is not more than ten.

Negative: Zayan is not less than ten.

Affirmative: I have only ten taka.

Negative: I have not more than ten taka.

Negative: I have not less than ten taka.

Rule-(3) বাক্যে ‘Alone’ থাকলেঃ

‘Alone’ বাক্যের শুরুতে বসেনা। এই শব্দটি ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর পরে বসে। এ সকল বাক্যকে Negative বরতে হলে বাক্যের শুরুতে ‘Alone’ এর পরিবর্তে ব্যক্তির ক্ষেত্রে ‘None but’ এবং বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে ‘Nothing but’ বসে। যেমন-

Affirmative:Allah alone can save us.

Negative: None but Allah can save us.

Affirmative: Zayan alone will join the party.

Negative: None but Zayan will join the party.

Affirmative: Money alone can help me.

Negative: Nothing but money can help me.

Note: উপরের Affirmative Sentence গুলোতে (Allah, Zayan) শব্দগুলো ব্যক্তি বাচক তাই ‘None but’ ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। এবং (money) শব্দটি বস্তু বাচক তাই ‘Nothing but’ ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

Rule-(4) বাক্যে ‘Must’ থাকলেঃ

‘Must’ যুক্ত Affirmative বাক্যকে Negative করতে হলে ‘Must’ এর পরিবর্তে cannot but + bare infinitive অথবা cannot help + verb-এর সাথে-ing ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন-

Affirmative: We must obey our parents.

Negative: We cannot but obey our parents.

Negative: We cannot help obeying our parents.

Affirmative: Man must submit to Allah.

Negative: We cannot but submit to Allah.

Negative: We cannot help submitting to Allah.

Affirmative: We must follow the rules of health.

Negative: We cannot but follow the rules of health.

Negative: We cannot help following the ruler of health.

Affirmative: You must obey your teachers.

Negative: You cannot but obey your teachers.

Negative: You cannot but obeying your teachers.

Note: Bare infinitive বলতে (verb base form) বোঝানো হয়।

Rule-(5) বাক্যে ‘Every’ এবং ‘All’ থাকলেঃ

‘Every’ এবং ‘All’ যুক্ত Affirmative বাক্যকে Negative করতে হলে বাক্যের শুরুতে There is no + (every/all এর পরের শব্দটির singular form বসে) + but + singular verb-----(অর্থ অনুসারে tense বসে)।

‘Every’ এবং ‘All’ যুক্ত Affirmative বাক্যকে Negative করতে হলে বাক্যের শুরুতে There is no + (every/all এর পরের শব্দটির singular form বসে) + who + don't/doesn't/didn;t/be+not + -----(অর্থ অনুসারে tense বসে)।

বাক্যের শুরুতে No + (every/all-এর পরের শব্দটির singular form) + key word-এর বিপরীত অর্থ প্রকাশক word বসে। যেমন-

Affirmative: Every mother loves her child.

Negative: There is no mother but loves her child.

Negative: There is no mother who does not love her child.

No mother hates her child.

Affirmative: All men are mortal.

Negative: There is no man but is mortal.

Negative: There is no man who is not mortal.

Negative: No man is Immortal.

Affirmative: Every rose has a thorn.

Negative: There is no rose but has a thorn.

Negative: No rose is without a thorn.

Affirmative: Everyone is liable to mistake.

Negative: There is no one but liable to mistake.

‘Always’ যুক্ত Affirmative বাক্যকে Negative করতে হলে ‘Always’ এর পরিবর্তে Never বসে এবং তার পরবর্তী Key word এর বিপরীত শব্দ বসিয়ে Negative করতে হয়। যেমন-

Affirmative: I shal always remember your advice.

Negative: I shal never forget your advice.

Affirmative: We are always conscious of health.

Negative: We are never unconscious of health.

Affirmative: Jim was always punctual.

Negative: Jim was never late.

Affirmative: You should always speak the truth.

Negative: You should never tell a lie.

Rule-(7) বাক্যে ‘Too ....... to’ থাকলেঃ

‘Too ....... to’ যুক্ত Affirmative বাক্যকে Negative করতে হলে ‘Too ....... to’ এর পরিবর্তে ‘So ....... that’ বসে। অর্থাৎ ‘Too’ এর পরিবর্তে ‘So’ এবং ‘to’ এর পরিবর্তে ‘that’ বসে। যেমন-
