অংশে আমরা Conjunction কি বা Conjunction কাকে বলে সে সম্পর্কে সামান্য কিছু
জেনেছিলাম। আজকে আমরা Conjunction কি, Conjunction কত প্রকার ও কি কি সব কিছু
উদাহরণের মাধ্যমে সহজ ভাবে বোঝার চেষ্টা করবো। ইংরেজিতে কথা বলা বা লেখার
ক্ষেত্রে Conjunction সম্পর্কে অবশ্যই জ্ঞান থাকতে হবে।
কথা বলার সময় আমাদের প্রায়ই কতগুলো word, phrase, clause বা sentence কে যুক্ত
করার প্রয়োজন হয়। এ সকল word,
phrase, clause
বা
sentence কে
যুক্ত করতে হলে Conjunction সম্পর্কে পরিষ্কার ধারণা থাকতে হবে।

Conjunction (সংযোজক অব্যয়)
সংজ্ঞাঃ যে word দুই বা ততোধিক word, phrase বা sentence-কে যুক্ত করে, তাকে conjunction বলে।উদাহরণঃ
Rima and Jhima are two sisters.
Nabil is an engineer but his brother is a doctor.
He is poor but honest.
Do or die.
ওপরের বাক্যগুলোতে and, but ও or শব্দ তিনটি যথাক্রমে দুটি
noun, দুটি
clause
এবং দুটি verb-কে যুক্ত করেছে। সুতরাং এই word গুলো এখানে Conjunction এর কাজ
করেছে।
Conjunction যে ধরনের word-কে যুক্ত করেঃ
Conjunction সাধারণত একই ধরনের দুটি Parts of Speech-কে যুক্ত করে।(1) Noun-কে অন্য কোনো noun-এর সাথে যুক্ত করে।
Lubna and Laboni are sisters. (noun to noun)
(2) Noun-কে অন্য কোনো pronoun-এর সাথে যুক্ত করে
Lubna and I are in the same class. (noun to pronoun)
(3) Pronoun-কে অন্য কোনো pronoun-এর সাথে যুক্ত করে
He and you are wrong. (pronoun to pronoun)
(4) Verb-কে অন্য কোনো verb-এর সাথে যুক্ত করে -
Lubna came and sat beside me. (verb to verb)
(5) Adjective-কে অন্য কোনো adjective-এর সাথে যুক্ত করে
The girl is black but attractive. (adjective to adjective)
(6) Adverb-কে অন্য কোনো adverb-এর সাথে যুক্ত করে-
The tortoise walks slowly but steadily. (adverb to adverb)
(7) Preposition-কে অন্য কোনো preposition-এর সাথে যুক্ত করে
The bird flies through and through the air. (preposition to preposition)
Classification of Conjunction (Conjunction এর শেণীবিভাগ)
Conjunction-কে প্রধানত তিনভাগে ভাগ করা যায়। যথা-(1) Co-ordinating/coordinative Conjunction
(2) Sub-ordinating/subjective Conjunction
(3) Correlative Conjunction
Co-ordinating Conjunction:
যে সব Conjunction দুই বা ততোধিক সমশ্রেণির স্বাধীন বিবৃতি বা সমপর্যায় বা
সমগুরুত্বপূর্ণ
clause-কে সংযুক্ত করে, তাদেরকে Co-ordinatio Conjunction বলে।
যেমন-She was inattentive to her study.
She cut a sorry figure in the exam.
উপরের sentence দুই টি কে and দ্বারা যুক্ত বরলে পা্ওয় যাবে।
She was inattentive to her study and cut a sorry figure in the exam.
এই sentence টিতে অর্থের কোনে পার্থক্য হয়নি। শুধু দুটি স্বাধীন ও আলাদা
sentence বা
clause কে ‘and’ দ্বারা যুক্ত করা হয়েছে। তাই ‘and’ এখানে Co-ordinating
Conjunction.
কয়েকটি Co-ordinating Conjunction হল and, but, also, or, as well as, both
ইত্যাদি ।
Sub-ordinating Conjunction:
যে সব conjunction এক বা একাধিক Subordinate Clause/dependent clause-কে
Principal Clause/Independent clause-এর সাথে যুক্ত করে, তাদেরকে
Sub-ordinating/subjective Conjunction বলে।
যেমন-As he was absent, I myself did the work.
I don't know why he left us.
He lost the book that he bought two days ago.
উপরের বাক্যগুলোতে ‘As', 'why', ‘that' ইত্যাদি conjunction গুলো Subordinate
Clause-কে Principal Clause-এর সাথে যুক্ত করেছে। তাই এদেরকে Sub-ordinating
Conjunction বলে।
উদাহরণঃ if, whether, since, before, so that, that, as, so, how, however,
until, when, while, lest, though, although, after, till, unless ইত্যাদি
Sub-ordinating Conjunction.
Correlative Conjunction:
যে সব Conjunction জোড়ায় জোড়ায় ব্যবহৃত হয় এবং সমজাতীয় একাধিক
Clause-কে যুক্ত করে, তাদেরকে Correlative Conjunction বলে । যেমন-
both-and, either-or, other than, neither-nor, not only-but also, the same -
as, whether - or not, so-that, such-that, no sooner-than, hardly-when,
scarcely-when, else-than প্রভৃতি উল্লেখযোগ্য Correlative Conjunction.
উদাহরণঃHe is such a stupid as you can't imagine. (such-as)
We should be both quick and accurate. (both - and)
He is the same person as I met yesterday. (The same - as)
I have no other dress than this. (other than)
Hardly had we left the room when it began to rain. (Hardly - when)
No sooner had I reached the station than the train arrived. (No sooner -- than)
Scarcely had I left the house when he came. (Scarcely-when)

আজকে আমরা Conjunction কাকে বলে, Conjunction এর কয়েকটি প্রকারভেদ সম্পর্কে
